Der Baufortschritt war beeindruckend. Viele von uns sind erstaunt, wie es gelungen ist, in derart kurzer Zeit dieses große Umbauvorhaben zu bewerkstelligen. Und das, ohne auch nur einmal den Verkehrsfluss in der Kärntner Straße – werktags täglich rund 25.000 Fahrzeuge – stark behindern oder gar sperren zu müssen. Jetzt ist die leistungsfähige Verbindung zur Autobahn fristgerecht fertiggestellt.
Im Wesentlichen waren es zwei unbedingt notwendige Baumaßnahmen, die dringend umgesetzt werden mussten. Erstens war es infolge des schlechten Bauzustands der 40 Jahre alten Autobahnbrücke höchste Zeit, diese umfassend zu sanieren, um auch in Zukunft für die Fahrzeuge auf und unter der Brücke die nötige Sicherheit gewährleisten zu können. Die zweite anstehende Maßnahme war, den 25 Jahre alten Verteilerkreis Webling, der bereits an seine Leistungsgrenzen gestoßen war, so auszubauen, dass er nicht nur leistungsfähiger, sondern vor allem auch sicherer zu befahren ist. Auch hier war Eile geboten, denn man wusste, dass es nach der Fertigstellung des Südgürtels zu einem vermehrten Verkehrsaufkommen aus dieser Richtung kommen würde
. An dieser Stelle muss ein Kompliment ausgesprochen werden: Die Verkehrsexperten haben die Entwicklung von Anfang an richtig eingeschätzt, denn bereits einige Monate nach Öffnung des Südgürtels fahren deutlich mehr Fahrzeuge Richtung Kreis.
Von Beginn an haben die umfangreichen und gut durchdachten Vorkehrungen auf der Großbaustelle für einen reibungslosen Ablauf der Umbauarbeiten gesorgt. Den von Pessimisten vorausgesagten Verkehrsstillstand hat es nie gegeben. Mit der Einrichtung eines großen provisorischen Kreisverkehrs außen um die Baustelle und dem Aufstellen von drei in sich geschalteten Ampelanlagen war vom Baustart weg ein zügiges Weiterkommen im Baustellenbereich garantiert. Entgegen allen Befürchtungen äußerten manche sogar, dass dies die erste Baustelle sei, wo es nach Beginn der Bauarbeiten besser vorangehe als vorher.
Besonders beeindruckt hat mich – ich hatte ja ständig Kontakt mit den Bauverantwortlichen –, wie manch schwierige Situation gemeistert werden konnte. So hatte sich zum Beispiel anfangs der Baubeginn wegen ungünstiger Wetterbedingungen um mehrere Wochen verzögert. Es waren zwar alle Umleitungsfahrbahnen fertig gebaut, aber die notwendigen Bodenmarkierungen für die Leit- und Sperrlinien konnten wegen des andauernd feuchten und kalten Wetters nicht aufgebracht werden. Ein kleines Zeitfenster von nur drei bis vier Stunden, in dem etwas bessere Bedingungen herrschten, wurde intensiv genützt, um auf dem teilweise gefrorenen Fahrbahnbelag die Markierung einen Tag vor Beginn der Abbrucharbeiten aufzubringen. Natürlich mussten diese dann in der ersten Zeit mehrmals erneuert werden. Neben anderen Herausforderungen möchte ich noch Folgendes erwähnen: Auch beim Aushub für die Fahrrad- und Fußgängerunterführung staunte man nicht schlecht, als auf einmal die Reste von ehemaligen, nicht ganz abgetragenen Gebäuden auftauchten. Da mussten zusätzlich Teile des Kellers des ehemaligen Spar-Kaufhaus Luttenberger und die Betonbodenplatte eines ehemaligen Baustoffhändler-Lagers beseitigt werden.
Sinnvoll finde ich auch, dass es im Zuge der Umgestaltung möglich geworden ist, neben dem Park-&-Ride-Platz, der jetzt mehr als 220 Fahrzeuge aufnehmen kann, noch einen eigenen Busbereich zu schaffen. Dieser Standort mit sechs Busparkplätzen liegt direkt neben der Haltestelle der Graz Linie 32 und dem Park-&-Ride-Platz. Von hier aus wird es zukünftig optimal möglich sein, die gewünschten Reiseziele wie Wien, Kroatien, Italien, Salzburg, Linz usw. mit den immer beliebter werdenden Fernbussen zu erreichen. Dass in diesem Haltestellenbereich eine vandalensichere WC-Anlage zur Verfügung stehen wird, finde ich ebenfalls vorteilhaft.
Bereits jetzt möchte ich mich bei der Bauleitung für die gute Zusammenarbeit bedanken. Alle unsere Fragen und Wünsche während des Umbaus, wie z. B. Haltestellenverlegungen, Fußgänger- und Radfahrerquerungen usw., haben soweit möglich immer Gehör gefunden. Aber auch für das Bemühen, vor wichtigen Baumaßnahmen die Anrainer, die betroffenen Gewerbebetriebe sowie den Bezirksrat von Straßgang mit Informationsveranstaltungen einzubinden und rechtzeitig über anstehende Maßnahmen ausführlich zu informieren, danke ich herzlich.
Ich freue mich, dass der neu ausgebaute Verteilerkreis mit seinen acht Ampeln – von vielen anfangs ja stark angezweifelt – seit mehreren Monaten bereits den erwünschten Anforderungen hinsichtlich höherer Leistungsfähigkeit und auch mehr Sicherheit voll und ganz entspricht.
